Appalachian Legacy Initiative

“The mission of ALI is to save the horses of Appalachia through collaboration, education and the provision of equine resources.”

ALI : MORE THAN HORSE RESCUE IN WEST VIRGINIA.

Operating as one of West Virginia’s most effective equine advocacy organization. Erin, founder of ALI, works with the locals to educate them on her work to provide a partnership for change.   She works throughout much of Appalachia uniting  groups of individuals, volunteers and partners improving the outlook for horses of all breeds and background, as well as safety of people in the region. She does so through such methods as distributing mineral block throughout the region to keep unlimited numbers of horses off the roads seeking salt, which reduces car and horse collisions, boil this down, she is saving lives.   She is always working to save and improve the lives of individual horses as well with medical intervention, she succeeding.

Because she is aware it is important to expand the reach of advocacy in this region, she offers rescue to horses, education to horse owners, and works with horse professionals regionally to see her goals to fruition. Erin also assist counties’ animal control & law enforcement officers statewide with training and support.

Erin is a successful advocate for All Horses in Appalachia.

Poverty in the region means the need for education and assistance is tremendous, and she works to meet those needs.

She cares about showing what rescued horses are capable of while working on the roots of “equine neglect” where a future finds fewer horses in need.

Abuse, deprivation from water, food and basic care frequently go on at unspeakable levels where horses are left to suffer for years in Appalachia.

She has found working at the root of the issue through clinics, educational events, blogs and in person help creates respect for equine advocacy and change. Erin’s focus is to improve the outlook of horses here for now and the long term.

Horses in her care receive the rehab or medical care they need to lead healthier lives.

Eagle's Nest Ranch

Eagle’s Nest Ranch is a 501(c)3  non-profit organization located in Elizabeth, Colorado. Our purpose is to bring hope, trust, and growth into the lives of those who come to the Ranch. We serve adults and children, who have experienced or who are experiencing the invisible wounds of life.

We desire to help our participants soar above adversity through one-on-one interactions with the horses. Our Healing Horses for the Armed Forces program serves the military community, while the Soaring program serves all others.

All our sessions are offered free of charge. We rely on the generosity of others who see the value of our purpose and want to partner with us to help people soar above the adversities of life.

Eagle’s Nest Ranch was founded by Suzy MacKenzie who was inspired to model a ranch ministry  after  Crystal  Peaks  Youth  Ranch  in  Oregon.   After reading the book ‘Hope Rising’ by Kim Meeder, she went to the information clinic of Crystal Peaks to figure if this was God’s call on her life.  She  left  knowing  establishing  a  similar  ranch  was her next purpose.

The name ‘Eagle’s Nest Ranch’ came easily. A nest represents a safe and nurturing place of growth  and a place to fly from. The eagle represents strength and nobility. The eagle can fly high, above the storm clouds.

The eagle is also a symbol of our country and represents freedom. This was an important connection as Eagle’s Nest Ranch  serves the military community through our Healing Horses for the Armed Forces program. What better name could there have been?

The ranch was opened in the summer of 2014. At Eagle’s Nest Ranch, we hope, we believe, and we don’t give up. We invite you to be a part of that. The ranch verse is “My God in His steadfast love will meet me.” Psalm 59:10a. God’s love for us is unconditional and never wavers. He meets us where we are in our brokenness and loves us still.
