Lacy Boots are made to be worn, ridden in, and enjoyed. Genuine leather naturally changes with time and use, and proper care will help keep your boots looking great for years to come.
SMOOTH LEATHER
Smooth leather boots can be cared for with quality leather-care products designed for genuine leather.
Remove dirt and dust with a soft cloth or brush before applying conditioners, creams, or oils. Follow the directions of the leather-care product you choose and avoid over-saturating the leather.
Regular conditioning can help keep the leather soft, supple, and protected from excessive drying.
IF YOUR BOOTS GET WET
Lacy Boots are made for real life, and sometimes boots get wet. If your boots become soaked, allow them to dry naturally at room temperature or while wearing if possible. Do not place them next to a heater or use a hair dryer or other direct heat source, as excessive heat can dry out or damage the leather.
After the boots have dried, we recommend applying a quality boot oil or leather-conditioning product to restore moisture to the leather.
If the leather feels slightly different after becoming thoroughly wet and drying, wear your boots for a while after conditioning them. The genuine leather will warm, soften, and re-form to the shape of your feet as you wear them.
HAIR-ON-HIDE BOOTS
Hair-on-hide is a beautiful natural material, and every pair is unique. The color, markings, pattern, and direction of the hair will naturally vary from boot to boot.
Hair-on-hide will also change with wear. Repeated friction can cause the hair to rub off over time. This is normal wear and is not a defect in the hide.
We do not recommend wearing jeans over the outside of hair-on-hide boots. The repeated rubbing of denim against the hair can eventually wear areas of the hair away.
RIDING IN HAIR-ON-HIDE BOOTS
Yes—you can ride in your Lacy Boots. They were made by riders and designed to be used.
However, riders should expect some additional wear on hair-on-hide styles. Saddle fenders naturally rub against the inside of the boots while riding, and over time this friction may cause some of the hair to wear away in those areas.
We have seen well-loved hair-on-hide Lacy Boots develop a tremendous amount of character with use. Even when some of the hair wears away along the inside from riding, it can become part of the rustic, broken-in appearance of a boot that has actually been worn and enjoyed.
If you prefer to keep the hair-on-hide looking as close to new as possible, minimize friction against the hair and consider choosing a smooth-leather pair for frequent riding.
NATURAL LEATHER CHANGES ARE PART OF THE BOOT
Genuine leather isn't meant to remain perfectly unchanged. With time, your Lacy Boots may develop creases, scuffs, variations in color, softened areas, and other signs of wear.
We believe those changes are part of what makes a great pair of western boots your own.
